What to expect at your first appointment
Your first Physiotherapy appointment will be about 30 minutes long. Nicola will ask questions about your medical history, with an emphasis on the history relevant to your pain and/or injury. Nicola will then carry out a series of movement-based tests to determine the underlying causes and contributing factors of your pain/ concern (ie. the diagnosis). These tests may include a full spinal examination, postural assessment, orthopaedic testing, muscle testing, and neurological testing. If required, Nicola may refer you for x-rays or an MRI, however in most cases is not required to provide a diagnosis and commence treatment.
Patients are typically provided treatment in their first visit, unless it is determined that it is un-safe to do so.
Return and ongoing visits are usually 30 minutes long as well and offer treatment, home care exercises & periodic comparative assessments to work towards your goals. If appropriate, Pilates classes under Physiotherapist supervision will be recommended as part of your treatment plan.
